DIY TV Frame

I wanted a new, more decorative TV frame but I didn’t like the $200+ price tag! I decided to tackle making my own. For less than $65 I made my own decorative frame that could work for any flatscreen TV. Here are the deets!

Materials:

(2) 1x2 board, 8 ft- $8.86

(2) decorative trim, 8 ft- $33.76 (but depends on what you choose, you could get much cheaper with a simpler trim!)

Rub n Buff (I used antique gold)- $6.99

Miter saw or trim cutter

Jigsaw

Finish nailer

Finish nails

Wood filler

Magnets (optional)- $12.99

The How To:

1: Measure the exterior of your tv.

The depth of my TV (front to wall) was 1.5 inches, so a standard 1X2 board was perfect to make the base of my frame.

2. Make your base frame-

Cut your 1x2 boards to make a base frame surrounding your TV. This should fit very tightly around your TV. My Samsung Frame TV has magnets surrounding it that held on my original frame, so I added magnets to my new base to make sure it was extra secure. I used my existing TV frame as a template of where my magnets should go. If your TV does not have this feature, they are unnecessary!

Use a jigsaw to cut out any areas that need to be open on the bottom portion of your frame (speakers, TV remote receivers etc)

Connect the sides of your base frame using finish nails. Make sure at this point that it will slide onto your TV easily and securely stay on!

3. Make your decorative frame face-

Measure the frame base. The frame face should be flush with the exterior side of your frame base, so the long side of your mitered trim will be the length of your base sides. Using your miter saw or trim cutter cut your decorative trim to size, then glue or nail onto your frame base.

Use wood filler to fill any nail holes and wood joints you want to cover. Lightly sand until smooth.

Apply Rub n Buff. I used a small paint brush so I could get into all of the little details of my trim. Let dry, then attach onto your TV.

Stay tuned for the final step of my fireplace makeover- a faux beam mantel!
